EMF Exposure, Symptoms and Protection

EMF is an invisible part of energy. We call it radiation. Most of us are using electronic devices to maintain a modern life. But few of us are aware of the possible health risks that the gadgets harm our bodies.

Electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) are produced where electricity is used, including in the workplace and home. Our computers, cellphones, microwaves, Wi-Fi routers, and power lines send out a stream of invisible energy waves.

What is EMF?

The Sun sends out waves that create EMFs, or radiation. At the same time, we can see its energy radiating out. These Sun-rays are visible light.

At the turn of the 20th century, electric power lines and indoor lighting came into use worldwide. Scientists realized that the power lines supplying all that energy to the world were sending EMFs just like the Sun does naturally.

After some time, scientists learned that many emerging electrical appliances also create EMFs. In addition, some of the medical treatment equipment, like imaging devices for CT scans and, X-rays were also found to emit EMFs.

Today, 90 percent of the world’s population has access to electricity and uses electrical appliances. That means lots of electricity and EMFs are created around the world.

Types of EMF exposure

Radiation exists in the surrounding called the electromagnetic spectrum. This radiation ranges from very high-frequency on one end to a very low frequency on the other end of the spectrum.

There are two types of EMFs that you might be exposed to:

High-frequency EMFs

This field is the ionizing type of radiation.

Examples of high-frequency radiation include:

  • Medical devices like X-ray imaging machines and CT scans produce low levels of this type of radiation.
  • gamma rays from radioactive elements
  • Some ultraviolet rays from either tanning beds or the Sun.

These radiations can damage the body’s DNA and cells, which may develop genetic mutations and cancer.

Low- to mid-frequency EMFs

This field is the non-ionizing type of radiation. It’s mild and thought to be harmless to people.

Examples of low to mid-frequency radiation include:

  • Household appliances like microwave ovens, cellphones, hairdryers, and washing machines
  • Power lines, electrical wiring, and MRIs produce this type of radiation.

This category of EMFs includes extremely low frequency.

Sources of EMF radiation

EMF exposure intensity decreases as you increase your distance from the object sending out waves. Some common sources of EMFs that emit varying levels of radiation include the following:

  • cellphones
  • Bluetooth devices
  • microwave ovens
  • computers
  • MRI machines
  • smart meters
  • wireless (Wi-Fi) routers
  • power lines

Symptoms of EMF exposure

Here are some possible symptoms that may be related to EMFs:

  • sleep disturbances, including insomnia
  • tremor
  • memory loss
  • tiredness and fatigue
  • changes in memory
  • loss of concentration
  • headache
  • depression and depressive symptoms
  • dysesthesia (a painful, often itchy sensation)
  • skin burning and tingling
  • lack of concentration
  • dizziness
  • irritability
  • loss of appetite and weight loss
  • restlessness and anxiety
  • nausea

How Does EMF Radiation Harm Us?

Our bodies run on electricity. Our brain gets the messages, as electrical signals between our neurons carry those.

Our muscles, heart, and organs all run on electricity.

Our body’s electricity comes from chemicals like potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium. Those all have an electrical charge.

In addition, electricity vibrates at different frequencies, and that’s true of our bodies as well as our fridge, cell phone, and laptop.

We literally send out electrical “vibes” from every organ and cell of our body.

So what happens when there are conflicting electrical charges and vibrations all around us, 24/7?

  • EMF radiation causes damage at a cellular level. It creates oxidative stress, which is what ages your body’s DNA.
  • It disrupts your hormones, including cortisol (stress hormone), melatonin (sleep hormone), testosterone, and estrogen.
  • It also messes with the electrical activity in your brain, which causes brain fog, exhaustion, and mood problems.

When you understand how the body works, it’s no wonder we’re suffering from so many chronic diseases!
